FAQ

Puglia Travel FAQ

What is the best time to visit Puglia?

Late May to early July, and September–October are ideal. July–August is peak season with Europeans on holiday — expect crowds and higher prices. Spring and fall offer perfect weather, fewer crowds, and lower accommodation rates.

How do I get to Puglia from Japan?

Fly to Rome (FCO) direct (~13 hours), then take a domestic flight to Brindisi (BDS) — about 1 hour. From Brindisi, Lecce is just 30 minutes by train. Alternatively, fly via Zurich, Frankfurt, or other European hubs that offer direct flights to Brindisi.

Do I need a car in Puglia?

A rental car is highly recommended for exploring Puglia freely. Pick up at Brindisi Airport and drive to Lecce (30 min), Otranto, Gallipoli, and Porto Cesareo at your own pace. Trains connect major cities but buses between small towns are limited.

What is Porto Cesareo known for?

Porto Cesareo is famous for having some of the clearest, most beautiful beach water in all of Italy — often compared to the Caribbean. The shallow Ionian Sea creates stunning turquoise gradients. Boat trips to uninhabited Isola Grande are popular.

Is Puglia safe for tourists?

Yes, Puglia is very safe for tourists. The region is generally peaceful, locals are incredibly welcoming, and violent crime is rare. Standard travel precautions apply (watch for pickpockets in crowded areas). We have visited 10+ times without any issues.
